Cedar Mountain Advisory Council (CMAC)   ~  Member Bio’s
The following are short personal bio’s of the members of CMAC (in alphabetical order):

Dianne Beatty and her husband, David, purchased their little slice of heaven in 1992.  After twelve years of commuting back and forth to Las Vegas every weekend, they sold their home there and became full time residents of Cedar Mountain.  They have three children and three grandkids.  Their son Pat is a counselor at a middle school in Las Vegas and the oldest, Dave Jr., is a supervisor for Southwest Gas.  The youngest daughter, Deon, is continuing her education in Cedar City while she works part time for the school system.  Dianne’s commitment to CMAC is to bring the needed services such as trash collection, medical services and law enforcement to the area related to our rapid growth.

Irene Briggs and her husband, Karl, have owned and resided on Cedar Mountain as seasonal residents since 1981 and feel very fortunate to have been able to spend more time on the mountain the last few years.  Irene was previously on the Swains Creek Pines Board of Directors for eight years and served in various capacities including Chairperson, Treasurer, member of a variety of committees and various other positions.  Previously Irene chaired the Fire and Safety Council as they worked to acquire government grants, identify and implement fire suppression and safety measures for the mountain area.  For the last thirty plus years, Irene has operated a bookkeeping, accounting and tax preparation business currently in St. George, Utah, and previously in Las Vegas, Nevada.  Irene holds a dedicated interest in preserving our mountain to be the beautiful retreat that we have all grown to love while still having the foresight to help implement developments that will provide our residents with the functions necessary to preserve our area.

Pam Ence and her husband Rod arrived in Duck Creek December 31, 1988, to learn the business Rod’s parents started several years before.  Pam is a native from Salt Lake and Rod from Cedar City.  They have two grown children.  Pam’s goal for CMAC is to complete all goals set, to keep Cedar Mountain a place for people to enjoy so the many generations to come will know the beauty and splendor of Cedar Mountain.

Wade Heaton has grown up and lived in the Cedar Mountain area for the last twenty five years.  Wade and his wife, Julie, have five school aged children and live full time in Elk Ridge Estates.  Wade works in the area and is self employed.  Wade’s goal for CMAC is to help bring some structure and unity to the mountain while developing substantial representation for the area.

Ken Klatt and his wife, Betty, moved to the mountain in August of 2003.  After leaving the heat of southern California they felt like this was paradise.  Being self-employed (Cedar Mountain Embroidery) gives them the best of both worlds, living and working here.  Between them they have four children, three boys and one girl.  They also have four grandchildren.  Ken’s goal for CMAC is to be the liaison between the forestry and the mountain community to increase the recreational growth to everyone’s benefit.

Kathy Martin was born and raised in Utah.  She worked as a school psychologist in Las Vegas, Nevada, for twenty-two years.  When retirement was approaching, she decided to return to her home state and started searching Utah for the “ideal place.”  Kane County, home of many of her pioneer ancestors seemed to fit the bill.  Kathy has two married daughters, one in North Carolina and the other in Southern California.  She is lucky enough to have five terrific grandchildren, ages three to seventeen.  Their favorite place to visit is “Granny’s Cabin.”  Kathy was interested in doing some volunteer work after retirement and became one of the founding members of the CMAC Team.  Her goal for CMAC is to have more of the property tax dollars collected from mountain property owners come back to the mountain in the way of improvements and upgrades.  She would also like to see more involvement from other mountain property owners.

Charlie Miller and his wife, Ruth, have had their Cedar Mountain, Mirror Lake Unit B, property since 1989 but actually Charlie’s family has had property in the same subdivision since he was young so he has always spent his summers there.  Charlie was born and raised in Cedar City and Ruth wentto college there and that's where they met. They have five children and eight grandchildren with one on the way and they all love the mountain. They currently live in Santa Clara (by St. George) although Charlie especially looks forward to the day he can retire and spend even more time up there.  The mountain is a big part of their life and that's why Charlie is involved with CMAC - to help preserve our mountain way of life as we have known it, the best he can with all the growth.

Kendra Risdon and her husband, Bobby Church, retired to Las Vegas and purchased a cabin in Cedar Mountain in 2004.  Kendra was born, raised, and worked in California until she retired.  She worked for a defense company for thirty three years retiring in July 2005.  She and her husband both have a twenty seven year old son each and a five year old granddaughter.  Kendra’s goal for CMAC is to ensure a coordinated transition to a governing entity for Cedar Mountain to maintain the beauty of this area for all.
